Where's The McBoogers?!?

Tonight on my way home I stopped at McDonalds for COFFEE. At 120 yen and free refills you cant go wrong especially because the Japanese McD coffee is better than most of the coffee shops here including Overoastbucks.

Because Paula was talking about the burgers and the ethics of McDs I looked closely at the advertising that comes as a tray napkin. It was talking about the guest burgers. The next one will be a Hawaian burger followed by a California burger.

Anyway, the important thing was that they stated as plain as day that the meat is 100% beef with no fillers and no MSG or similar chemical spices.

Maybe thats why the meat is soooo good!

Ooh... falling asleep here in bed... Night!

I love you.

  1. Trust me Cam... its a lie...did they deny "natural flavors"? Also I know Japan has different beef standards and usually don't allow it co come in, so maybe they have their own meat processing plants there as well instead of importing it.

  3. I know they say its 100% beef, but the FDA does not require WHAT parts are included and that is somewhat misleading because all they are claiming is that no other filler meats such as chicken, are used. Also they are able to skid over a lot by using the very loosely regulated term "natural flavoring".... phosphate is a natural product... so are lots of other mined chemicals some not really suitable for consumption but great as a preservative. So they can be misleading, only giving partial truths.

There is another book in addition to the one I mentioned, called "Twinkie Deconstructed" by Steve Ettlinger ... it goes into food labels and how misleading they can be. And is a very interesting read....

  4. PS... Cam its OK I still love you.... even if you do eat cow lips, or the occasional migrant food processors arm or fingers .... that were never reported because they are terrified to report such incidences to OSHA or file a claim.

  5. I've been eating chicken lips and testicles for years growing up as a kid having hot dogs everywhere. We all have! So why stop at chicken? As ducky says, "beef is beeeeeeef".

  6. In addition to that, the more parts of the cow we consume, the more we are doing its slaughter justice. Why just stop at the beef? The inuit and native americans used to eat the entire animal, bones and all. There is a lot of healthy necessary nutrition in the organs, the marrow and more! So... if we think that McD burgers consist of the whole animal (or parts thereof), it very well may be that they are chock full of even more nutrients that our bodies require than solely burgers made from the meat of the animal.

And that sounds finger lickin' good to me!

Wait a minute... isn't that another product? *wink*

Oh, and dont worry, Love. I KNOW you love me. You are an honourary Canadian and you know how we Canucks only tease those we love... *hug*

    Back to grilling.....

  7. Actually... I don't mind eating all the parts of the cow... frita mista in Italia is a perfect example. But its the OTHER stuff in there, the "natural flavor and natural preservatives" that make me shudder... well that and like I mentioned above the occasional workman's flesh.....

You and I are both Irish in the lineage... and therefore we both know this little debate is not only pleasing and FUN but can go on and on and on...... and we will still love each other, more actually due to the stimulating debate!

  8. The tricky part is that the word for "beef" in Japanese is "cow meat", so by saying 100% cow meat, they technically have an out there. I don't know how else we could say it that wouldn't get caught by some human rights group... "Our burgers consist of the meat, the whole meat and nothing but the meat so help us God!"

"Tsunagi" in Japanese means additives. non-cow flavours are additives (so are salt and pepper which all beef needs). Preservatives don't come from cow therefore they too are additives. Colouring (make the beef look beefier) is also not a cow product unless they add more beef to add natural beef colouring to the beef to enhance the original beef colouring. But that would be "all beef".

And as for irish? I agree! OK, cooking done, cleaning done, must get dressed and head out to work for the last day of the week.

I love you and your fun debates!

May you live long, and eat many boogers!!

  9. Ah the key is to live long, therefore I must skip those boogers.... unless I plan to preserve myself from the inside out.

I am curious Cam... try to do the same test as the video clip above, I would be curious if Japanese burgers rot, like real meat burgers do? Or if they just stay and stay and stay.... like the ones here in the states do?? You love research, and doing video... so it could be a challenge for you! Nothing that is not preserved esp meat will stay without decomposition, or at the very least mildew....
