It amazes me... every time I go out to do more weeding I find that there is even MORE moss growing naturally and beautifully than ever before! And I don't do a damn thing with it! (Same with the hostas that are turning into alien beings again).

  1. Some things just come naturally....

(I'm referring to the MOSS & hostas, not bragging, btw). *wink*

    I love you!

  2. I know. I know...

Meanwhile i have to scrape the moss OUT of the lawn and try to replant it in the areas where i want it. I'm slowly extending my rock walk and planting th moss in and around the stones there. Then i will move on to the patio.

It only "happens naturally" where i DON'T want it in my yard.... story of my life...

Nothing just happens. I have to make it happen... usually.

  3. I have some flowers. I hope that some of them are still alive at the end of the summer.

  4. LOTS of water, Rachel. That's key.
If they're outside and you get even just a few hours of sun a day, they still want lots of water.

As i have seen from these past few weeks, everything is blooming and veggies are sprouting.

I'M just sick of the dark cloudy days.... but i'll survive... i guess. ;-)

  5. Sun and over 95 not a cloud in the sky. Well maybe a small one.

  6. Welll.... you better get out there with that hose and soak them babies!

Or get a sprinkler and just let it go for about 20 minutes to give everything a good soaking.

Best time is the early morning or now... in the evening.

  7. Hmmm..... this is definitely worth pondering, Jen. In fact, the little comment you left here is actually quite revealing... perhaps your "forcing" the landscape to look the way you want it might be better if you "felt" how it goes naturally, and then adjusted your 'scaping to suit what is already happening.... I don't say this with sarcasm, or anything, but genuine sincerity. Max and I can always tell when a road they are hacking into the mountains will fail. We look at the surroundings, feel them, sense them, (and do god knows what else that two young handsome virile men on mountain bikes do in the wilderness) and then we know. And sure enough, usually the following year the mountain has collapsed and the road is blocked.

Go WITH the energy of MOTHER nature, Love. Don't fight it. If the moss grows in a certain spot, make THAT the spot where moss is "supposed to be".

    (end serious discussion)

.... but then again, knowing your luck with moss, if you did that, THAT spot would probably turn out to be the WRONG spot too!!!

    I love you!

  8. The second part of that is the true part, Cam

Besides... i want my lawn to be GRASS!

The moss will just turn brown in the sun ( if it comes out again) and i do not want that.
It took hold because i never got around to putting lime down in eaely spring.

I wonder if it's too late now... have to ask about that.

Gardening is an art... and a science, Sweety.

Just as Celeste is cross pollenating her tomatoes (i think it was Celeste) to change or improve the species, other gardeners play with lawn grasses and such to get just the look they desire.

A good lawn is like the frame of a painting... the painting being my flowers.

    You feelin me, Boo?

  12. You should see the amazing deep rock steps all covered in moss here at my friend, Norman's place, in Karuizawa where I am now. Unbelievable how thick and luscious it all is!
