Yesterday was the day to go up into the dolomite mountains. And then
again it wasn't because it was pissing cats and dogs all day. But we
went. And the route curved and wended and climbed up to 2105M
elevation where the rain turned to snow as the temperature dropped to
2C! It was chilly out there.
Then we headed down to Cortina but the city was all closed for the
Monday. And the rain! Cortina is like the Aspen of the Dolomites. The
rich jet setters collect and strut their stuff up there. But not
yesterday.
So we kept on driving back down the mountains on the other side until
we came to Vajont, the dam above Longarone, where a terrible tragedy
occurred on Oct 9, 1963.
