Today Mayu wanted to head up to Eiheiji Temple, about 30 minutes from our home to take some photos of the "koyo", or autumn leaves because the temple grounds are full of the most beautiful Japanese maple, and other trees that turn gorgeous colours for autumn.
We will be going back...
I love you!

Watching....
ReplyDeleteI have never had roasted chestnuts....or tasted tofu.
Our leaves have changed and are floating to the ground with amazing speed. My leaves in the back yard are.....gone. Bare nekkid trees. Quite depressing actually. BUT, the sun is shining today :)
You are such a nut, gong man.
mine won't load..... damn...
ReplyDeletelater.
You live in such an amazingly beautiful place.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Robin. Hang on another two weeks and I'll show you how much more amazinglier beautifuller it gets!
ReplyDeleteA little higher up in the mountains... oh... about 45 minutes from here... it looks like this right now:
ReplyDeleteI remember from previous years. I guess it's all down to perspective - I live in a beautiful place, but because I see it EVERY day I take some of its beauty for granted. I don't think that can be avoided. I know you would go nuts on some of the sights my area affords - I'm just saying that because your place is one I've never been it is fresh and new to me. It is wondrous indeed.
ReplyDeleteMost of the leaves are gone now, but we had screamingly violent color changes. Amazing.
Hey...
ReplyDeleteWhere'd that picture come from?
I still haven't had a chance to view, but i can now... my internet's up again, but i've been up...to my elbows in eggplant, eggs, breadcrumbs, ricotta cheese, mozzarella cheese, pasta sauce, and... and... mmmmmmmm... be back after dinner.
Love you, Mou!
*growling tummy*
ReplyDeleteEggplant parm??
Oh boy.
Robin - I understand exactly what you mean. I think I am lucky in that I grew up in flatland so even after 20 years, my desire for these mountains and everything around them is still as powerfully strong, and has me as deeply in its grips as it did when I first came here.
ReplyDeleteHowever.... when I talk to the people who grew up surrounded by all of this Shangri-la, most of them think that the fallen leaves are a nuisance and those trees should be cut down. They tell me that all natural trees in a yard should be trimmed, and pruned for beauty (as in bonsai-style trimming... always), and they take their trash up into the mountains and dump it regularly (and I mean old cars, bicycles, air conditioners, refrigerators... anything that would cost money to dispose of). They prefer the mountains being cut down and covered in concrete because they feel it is "safer", not understanding that the trees absorb so much runoff, that by cutting them away, you exacerbate the erosion exponentially. So yes, most of the people who live here, young especially, find these mountains, the leaves, and all of nature's shift (even the glorious heavy snowfall) to be tedious, boring, and a nuisance.
It's no wonder they are all so stressed out... they are not seeing one of the best ways to reduce stress in their lives: through the power of The Goddess.
I love you!
Jen - That picture comes from waaay up toward the beginning of the Kuzuryu River (the one I swim in down here). That is where M and I are going today for more photos, and more video. I am charging my batteries, as I brush my teeth.
Robin - And yes, I must admit that to have moss-covered dragons spouting water, rearing out of a man-made river covered in moss, with hundreds of years old statues covered in moss, and a thousand year old trees covered in moss is rather unique....
ReplyDeleteI'm just blown away at how much more moss has taken over our yard since I did my last weeding! I'm hoping that in another year or two, it will be all moss, and my dream of getting rid of the weeds once and for all will be taken care of in a most natural way without me having to sod the damn place! I love moss!
ok.. I absolutely love M's sweater! The angular cut of the hem... I'm gonna have to try that.
ReplyDeleteand her little beret! CUTE!
Oh.. nice moss too! *wink*
I can't imagine visiting such an ancient place... I think... I'd be overwhelmed .... such... history.
Yup...
ReplyDeleteLove the moss.
