"Brother stand the pain Escape the poison of your impulses. The sky will bow to your beauty, if you do. Learn to light the candle. Rise with the sun. Turn away from the cave of your sleeping. That way a thorn expands to a rose. A particular glows with the universal." - Rumi

  1. I like Rumi but I wonder why he things that impulses are poison? This I don't agree with. But I like the quote overall.

  2. Interesting point, Sheila. How about this... could it be that when we experience pain, our first impulse is to give up, and to run from it, taking the easier way out? And of course it becomes a habit to avoid that which is uncomfortable (painful). But if we learn to escape that, and persevere through the difficult (painful) times, then we will grow more knowledgeable, wise, and beautiful within and without from these experiences and hardships. Then we can blossom from the painful thorn, into the beautiful rose.

What do you think? Possible? I really don't know, though. Just my guess.
