Fishing on the Kuzuryu River

Today I decided to get out of the steambath house and go down to the river. I spend time here every summer because it is a little cooler, but the running water and the constant breeze make it feel MUCH cooler.

I met some fishermen while I was there... There two Japanese guys fishing for ayu or sweetfish, a relative of smelts. There were many others, but these fellows were nearest to me. You can look "ayu" up on wikipedia and get an excellent description with wonderful photos.

I also caught a few snaps of some skinny white stringbean out by the river fishing for ... what?

I

don't

know.

Have a great day! I certainly did. And maybe I will again tomorrow if it's another steambath day in this house!

I love you!

  2. How fast can you run from setting the camera to getting yourself in frame?

One day you're going to slip on a rock and break yer arse trying to take pictures of yourself.

You need a helpful, handy photographer to hang out with you for just such an occasion....

Ahem.... helpful, handy photographer, reporting for duty, Sir!

  6. Yes, they are, Jools. They are called tetrapods and they make all different shapes and put them in the oceans and rivers that flood to protect the banks from eroding away. Unfortunately not a single one of them has a level surface so when I tan... I'm always trying to prevent myself from falling off!

  7. Jools - The water is maybe 15C right now and they stay in there all day so they need the neoprene suits to stay warm. They actually stay in the water like that from morning to sundown.

  11. Thanks, Kim. I kinda feel like Gollum, just before he reaches into the pond to pull out a fish and start bashing it's head on the rocks while he sings that little song to himself.... GOLLUM! GOLLUM!!

  12. A blue Ellesse men's swimsuit I think. Unless you are wondering about that fisherman guy, who is wearing neoprene...

  14. Yes. I'm not into speedo bikinis, nor the fashionable long ones that look like low rise cycling shorts. I like this "boxer-brief" style very much. Thanks.
