This breaks my heart

A photo of a beautiful shiba-ken walking in the deserted town of Futaba in Fukushima.

This town is in the 20km illegal-to-enter zone.

It will eventually find water, but food will likely be a different matter. And dogs are domesticated; they do best with human interaction.

This breaks my heart. And this is only the tip of the iceberg.

  1. If there are photographers there, they should be bringing in food, and rescue supplies to take these animals out. I would...

  2. I wonder if these are all strays or if people just... left them?

  3. A recent article quoted some people as saying they were lied to; they were told that they would be able to return in a day or two to get their stuff. So, many people left with nothing but a credit card, thinking it was just a short holiday from their home, never knowing they would never be allowed back in. Now that the 20km ban is in place, people are trying to sneak in, driving in very quickly past the guards, breaking the rules to get to their homes and collect as much as they possibly can. I think that most people were told that their pets would be fine. But, at that time, even the government didn't know it would get so bad...
